Child in the City has been organised across Europe in previous editions. In 2002 the event started in Bruges. Since then the event has been organised, in association with the European Network of Child Friendly Cities (ENCFC), bi-annually in London, Stuttgart, Rotterdam and Florence. From 26-28 September 2012 Zagreb, Croatia is the location for the 6th edition of Child in the City.

Next to making sure that the 2012 edition will be as successful as previous editions, we are also looking for a host city for 2014. We would like to announce the host for 2014 this coming September. For all editions of Child in the City city authorities have been the official host of the event. In this role they have supported and facilitates the organisation of the event. In return many hundreds of leading professionals on child friendly cities will visit the hosting city. The host city can display itself as child friendly city and provide a showcase for other cities.

The aim of Child in the City is to encourage cities all over Europe to create a child friendly public space. What started as a small event in 2002, has in 10 years time grown into an inspiring international movement to promote the local implementation of the Convention of the Rights of the Child. By exchanging their experiences, cities themselves have been providing the energy for this movement.
